Bob Dylan: The Protest Movement of the Early 1960s
The influence of Bob Dylan's music simply cannot be overstated, especially with respect to the folk protest movement of the early 1960s. However, in revisiting these songs, most will agree that each still has a relevant message for today. Sing along with Mark, his guitar, and harmonica (of course) to the Bob Dylan songs everyone remembers:
Don't Think Twice It's Alright, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Blowin' in the Wind, The Times They are A' Changing, Masters of War, Ballad of Hollis Brown, With God on OUr Side, A Hard Rain's A' Gonna Fall, Mr. Tambourine Man, My Back Pages
Mark especially enjoys performing this set and discussing the impact of Dylan's songs and folk music with high school juniors. Mark taught history for years at Oak Ridge High School and loves returning to share his passion for music that "says something."
Mark entertains and informs with accompanying videos (including the song lyrics), historical storytelling, and audience participation. Your group will love the music and discussion. Mark provides discussion questions to keep the audience engaged.
