Gold Rush Musical!
Eureka! Living in the gold country, we all share a rich heritage of history. And many of us have found the treasure of the gold rush songbook. As "the world rushed in" in 1849, these songs did as well:
Oh! California, The Days of ’49, Clementine, Sweet Betsy from Pike, Seeing the Elephant, Joe Bowers, Ho! For California! (On the Banks of the Sacramento), A Rippin' Trip, Life in California, Skip to My Lou

Karla and Mark perform at venues throughout Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, and Amador counties: schools, senior communities, the Folsom History Museum, libraries, and service organizations.
For fourth grade classes, Karla and Mark provide a two-hour interactive learning adventure. Prior to the Karla and Mark's visit, teachers are emailed the Gold Rush lesson packet and the printable Gold Rush Songbook, featuring the song lyrics, historical background of each song, vocabulary, and comprehension questions.
Karla and Mark's performance lesson includes choral readings, a short readers theater, tableau, and a special guided writing project in which students compose their own lyrics to one of the songs. Karla and Mark perform a sample of the student lyrics. Students learn about a wide array of musical instruments and get to play along with the performers. Your students will love these engaging standards-based activities. Make sure to invite parents to attend!
