Remedial Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Literacy Center
What if you could remediate the grammar, usage, and mechanics Common Core Standards for each of your students in a literacy center (or station)? You can! The Remedial Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Literacy Center has been designed to help your grades 4–8 students master their language conventions deficits in the quickest possible time. Program prep is minimal and set-up with this digital download (eBook) is simple. Answers are provided with each task and your students will do all the correcting to learn from their own mistakes, except for the short formative assessments included for each lesson.
Teachers administer the Grammar and Usage Diagnostic Assessment and the Diagnostic Mechanics Assessment to form groups of students to participate, as the data indicate, in nine multi-lesson Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Workshops. The directions for each of the workshops are the same. The Grammar and Mechanics Workshops consist of the following: Parts of Speech, Sentence Structure, Pronoun Usage, Modifiers, Verb Tenses and Forms, Commas, Capitalization, Title Quotation Marks and Underlining (Italics), and Other Punctuation.
Each workshop provides Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Worksheets to help students collaboratively learn previous grade-level Language Conventions Standards. (Complete CCSS alignment documents are included.) The 77 worksheets focus on the Common Core Language Strand L.1, L.2, and the Language Progressive Skills Standards. Each worksheet includes concise definitions of the rule, skill, or concept with examples, the connection to writing, a practice section, and a brief formative assessment.
All the literacy center support materials are included: Group Norms Poster, Leadership Roles Poster, Literacy Center Signs, Literacy Center Task Cards, and 10 Rotation Options. Plus, easy-to-follow directions to ensure your success.
You, your students, their parents, and your administrators will see noticeable improvement in speaking and writing (and standardized tests) with the Remedial Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Literacy Center.
